Great Fishing
Fellows Lake, located just a short drive from Springfield, Missouri, is one of the Ozarks’ hidden gems for anglers seeking both convenience and quality fishing. This 860-acre reservoir offers year-round fishing opportunities, and it’s well known for the variety and abundance of fish that call its waters home. Whether you’re chasing the elusive musky, trying to land a mess of crappie, reeling in bass, or battling a big catfish, Fellows Lake has something for everyone. The lake has earned a reputation as one of the best musky fishing destinations in the Midwest, stocked and managed to provide anglers with a shot at a true once-in-a-lifetime catch. Trophy muskies over 40 inches are not uncommon, making every cast an exciting possibility. But while the muskies get plenty of attention, crappie fishing is just as rewarding. The lake consistently produces healthy populations of both black and white crappie, and anglers can often fill a live well with a limit in just a few hours of fishing. Bass anglers will find largemouth bass spread throughout the lake, with plenty of structure, brush, and coves that create perfect ambush points for big fish. Catfish also thrive here, and whether you’re after channel cats for the frying pan or a bruiser flathead for the bragging rights, Fellows Lake delivers. The convenience of being just minutes from Springfield means you don’t have to plan an entire weekend getaway to enjoy high-quality fishing—an afternoon trip after work or a quick morning on the water is all it takes. Fellows Lake is accessible, yet it still has a quiet, scenic charm that makes you feel far away from the bustle of the city. Surrounded by rolling hills and thick timber, the shoreline is as picturesque as it is productive for fishing. Every season brings new opportunities: spring crappie runs, summer bass action, fall musky hunting, and winter catfishing all keep the lake active and appealing. It’s not only a place for the hardcore angler chasing trophies, but also for families looking to enjoy a relaxing day by the water with the chance to reel in something memorable. The Missouri Department of Conservation manages the lake with careful stocking and conservation practices, ensuring it remains a sustainable fishery for years to come. With boat ramps, docks, and bank fishing access, anglers of all skill levels can find the perfect way to enjoy it. Simply put, Fellows Lake combines accessibility, variety, and natural beauty in a way that makes it stand out among Missouri’s fishing destinations. Whether you’re setting out to catch a monster musky that you’ll remember forever, or just looking to fill the cooler with crappie fillets for dinner, the lake offers unmatched opportunities right in Springfield’s backyard. The fishing is fantastic, the scenery is even better, and the memories made at Fellows Lake are sure to last a lifetime.
